12 Jul Accessibility Review: Vale of Rheidol Railway
I recently visited the Rheidol Light Railway which goes from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge. The train ride is approximately 12 miles and is very scenic.
There is parking next to the station and it is Pay & Display. Disabled bays are available.
Booking is essential as they only have room on the train for 2 wheelchair users and carers.
The approach to the train station is via a gentle ramp.
The shop interior is accessible to all types of wheelchair users as far as I could see.
Outside the access to the platform is a wide flat surface. I don’t think the access via the ramp provided onto the train is usable by an electric chair user. A manual chair can get up the ramp with assistance.
There are accessible toilets by the platform.
There is a museum on the other side of the platform, this is all on the flat and accessible.
Devil’s Bridge is not really accessible for wheelchair users apart from around the station.
If you are interested in riding on the Rheidol Railway, I suggest you call the attraction before booking to discuss your needs.
