We visited the Elan Valley Visitor Centre today.

Please note the car park is chargeable: a camera takes a picture of your number plate on entry and exit. The car park is free for one hour if you display a Blue Badge, and payment of £3 for the day if you wish to stay longer. There are 4 marked disabled parking places. Disabled parking isn’t great – the bays are a bit small and are only long enough for an actual car. Exiting the vehicle is okay from the passenger door.

Access to the Visitor Centre is via double doors, one set is electrically opened. It is flat with no steps, however, a carer or assistance would probably be required. The inside is accessible and all on one level.

There is a restaurant and a cafe in the Centre which are both accessible. There is an accessible toilet. Pets are allowed in the cafe.

The shop is only partially accessible because the aisles between the goods being sold is narrow in places – less than 900 mm.

There is a room in which you can watch a history of the construction of the Elan Valley dams and general guide. This door is about 900 mm wide, so generally accessible.

The centre itself is well lit and functional.

The Elan Valley dams area is generally very accessible with well-marked footpaths. Many are tarmac.
