A super review: ‘Book now! You won’t regret it’

We’ve received a super review from recent guests staying at Hawthorn Lodge:

“If I could build my own house, with the space and facilities now needed with a full-time wheelchair user in the household, the accommodation @ Mid Wales Lodges would 100% be my template.

My husband, a stroke survivor and full-time wheelchair user, along with 2 friends recently spent a week in Hawthorn Lodge and we were all spoilt with the available space, the tranquillity, and the high end finish of the lodge itself. The owners, Helen & Richard, were super hosts and kindly ensured that we had everything we needed, going the extra mile with some wine on ice and a jar of honey from their own bees, when we arrived. (We bought some honey to come home, too, which is so delicious that it’s disappearing far too quickly!)

The lodge was spotlessly clean – not a speck of dust to be found! – whilst the kitchen was fully equipped with every pot, pan and dish we needed.

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you can’t go wrong. Our only neighbours were birds and sheep. Our breakfast on the decking was accompanied by bird song – wonderful.

That said, Rhyader is only 10 minutes away by car and the glorious Elan Valley just a wee bit further on from there. Do note, however, that a car is definitely needed due to the location, which is just over a mile up a very quiet country lane.

There’s plenty to do in the locality too. If you’re looking for a glorious wheelchair accessible walk, we suggest you head to the Elan Valley and park at the Caban Coch Car Park. From there we walked along the cycle path for about 2 miles – up to the Garreg Ddu Dam, and further. The first half of our route was tarmac, the second half was compacted crushed stone/fine gravel but comfortable enough for the powerchair and its occupant! The day concluded with a visit to the Elan Valley Visitors Centre (more cake!)

Another great afternoon was spent watching the kite feeding at Gigrin Farm, where we had an up-close experience of the kites from Hide 5, which is wheelchair accessible. I suggest, however, that you book, particularly if you have wheelchair users in the party. We were there outside of the holiday season, but it was still busy.

We dined one evening at Ty Morgan’s in Rhyader. Customer service was out of this world and unlike anything we’d experienced before.

And a trip to Llandrindod Wells for lunch at the Lakeside Café, after a stroll around the lake (also wheelchair accessible and just under 1 mile in distance) is recommended too. If you’re looking for a wide selection of cakes, amongst other delicious offerings, this is the place to go. Again, booking is advised as it was very busy!

And if you don’t want to get out and about, you can enjoy the comforts and peace of Mid Wales Lodges and everything they have to offer!

So, in a nutshell: don’t hesitate. Book now! You won’t regret it.

Thank you Richard and Helen – we’ll be back 😊 “
